My war against Chronic Lyme Disease

Making terrible tinctures (almost) tolerable February 8, 2012

Recently a new tincture was added to my regiment: Cryptolepis, an anti-malerial sometimes used in the treatment of Lyme. Now, imagine the worst medicine you’ve ever tasted and I can safely say, without exaggeration, magnify that by one thousand. It is vile and bitter, indescribably nasty! I tried to look up suggestions on how to hide the taste, to no avail. Honey alone won’t do it. If you try to take your dose that way, the only thing you will succeed at doing is hating honey. Others suggested putting it in strong spirits, but I don’t drink, and even if I did, it seems to me counter intuitive to Lyme treatment. Determined to continue my treatment as suggested, I conducted an experiment to try and make this tincture tolerable.

I’ve turned the Jello shot from a party novelty into a medication delivery system. I can’t claim it’s delicious, but its tolerable.

Want to turn your tinctures tolerable?

My technique follows:

Here are the things you will need:

Ice cube tray

1/2 Box of Jello (with sugar included)

1 Cup boiling Water

Tincture

Honey (optional)

First, boil the water and add the Jello powder mix, stirring to dissolve.

Pour liquid Jello into ice-cube tray, filling each 1/2 way.

Add tincture and stir to combine.

Refrigerate until set. I would suggest serving the Jello tincture on a spoon that has been dipped in honey. The honey may help distract your taste buds to a certain extent. Tip: do not chew jello, swallow it whole and drink plenty of water.

Enjoy to the extent that it can be enjoyed. I hope this helps.
